Impact of weather and taxi strike on today’s refuse collection

Pikitup would like to advise the residents and business owners of Joburg that there will be refuse collection disruptions on Monday, 03 February 2014.

The disruptions are due to the taxi strike in Gauteng. A significant number of Pikitup staff are dependent on this form of transportation to get to work. The situation has also been compounded by today’s weather conditions. For this reason Pikitup will not be able to complete its full complement of refuse collection rounds. Residents and businesses whose bins are not collected by 20h00 today must please take them inside for safe keeping and put them out first thing tomorrow morning, as rounds not completed today, will be attended to on Tuesday, 04 February 2014.

The affected depots are as follows:

  1. Central Camp in Soweto
  2. Southdale Depot, which services the South of Joburg
  3. Randburg Depot
  4. Roodepoort Depot
  5. Waterval Deport, which services areas like Northcliff, Newlands and surrounding areas
  6. Marlboro Deport, which services Sandton and Alexandra areas

We are happy to advise that all other remaining depots (Zondi in Soweto, Norwood, Selby, Avalon and Midrand) are running at full capacity with no expectations of service delivery disruptions.

We do realise that this is an inconvenience to residents and affected business, please rest assured that we’re working towards limiting the impact of the disruptions to your refuse collection

Should residents have any further queries, Pikitup would like to encourage them to contact Joburg Connect on 011-375-5555 or 0860 562874 (0860 JOBURG),
