PIKITUP SERVICES CONTINUE TO BE DISRUPTED IN SOME PARTS OF THE CITY BY JOB SEEKERS

Pikitup employees are yet again prevented from servicing some parts of the City of Johannesburg as a result of the ongoing protest demonstrations outside some depots including a planned march to its head office.
The affected depots today, are Zondi, Central Camp, Selby, Waterval, Midrand and Avalon.
The disruptions to Pikitup services follows demands made by job seekers who want to be forcefully insourced by the waste management entity of the City.
A Joint Operations Team (JOT) has been set restore order to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
The JOT is composed of SAPS, JMPD, Red Ants and Pikitup.
This follows an incident on Monday where a Pikitup official was assaulted and doused with petrol while trying to the address the jobseekers.
The service disruptions have been going on since July 2018 to date. The actions of the protestors have culminated into a march that is expected to take place today, 05 August 2018 with the intention to shut down the City of Johannesburg including Pikitup services.
The protesters are expected to march to the Mayor’s office to voice their complaints against the insourcing project.
They are demanding that Pikitup give them permanent employment regardless of the resources and capacity available.
