A City of Johannesburg Media Advisory
Mayor Mashaba and MMC De Jager to Launch R80 million Upgrades to Pikitup’s Central Camp Depot
26 August 2019
Release: Immediate
The Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg, Councillor Herman Mashaba and the MMC for Environment and Infrastructure Services Department, Councillor Nico De Jager invite members of the media to a sod-turning ceremony today to mark the beginning of construction and the refurbishment of the Pikitup Central Camp Depot in Diepkloof, Soweto.
The upgrades and renovations to the depot are worth over R80 million and will see the creation of much-needed employment opportunities, especially for those who reside in the area.
This particular depot was set alight by criminals who, during the introduction of the City of Johannesburg’s insourcing programme last year, demanded jobs from Pikitup.
There will be an opportunity for interviews and pictures with officials on the day.
Details of the event are as follows:
Date: Monday, 26 August 2019
Time: 1pm
Venue: Cnr Chris Hani and Nicholas Roads, Diepkloof Zone 6, Soweto (just behind Bara Mall)
