Support has been flooding in for Pikitup’s Clean Up Day on 06 June with over 12000 individuals registered to participate. “We’re receiving tremendous support from residents and businesses of Joburg,” said Thabiso Taaka, Pikitup Chief Operating Officer (COO). The Clean Up Day will see Pikitup coordinating 66 meeting points across Joburg, where residents can collect their gloves and bags. Such collaboration between the municipality and the community it serves has been pivotal in maintaining the cleanliness of some of the cleanest cities in the world. It is hoped that the awareness created by this initiative will facilitate a mindset change in Joburg resident’s attitudes towards litter and illegal dumping. It would also enhance the cleanliness of the City ahead of the Confederations Cup. Residents can contact Pikitup on www.pikitup.co.zaor 011 712 5200 to register or find out more information. Registrations close on 03 June. 02/06/2009
