| Waste recycling refers to external recycling initiatives of post-consumer and post-production materials such as packing waste, glass and paper. It includes the separation at source of recyclable materials and the re-use of such materials, which includes both general and hazardous waste. |
Although Pikitup does not operate recycling facilities it supports all recycling initiatives and will provide advice to clients on recycling opportunities and methodologies.

The Vredestein SA Recycling Rubber Tyre Recycling Plant has been in existence for 50 years. They say they are the only company in South Africa that has the equipment to recycle passenger and truck tyres into a crumb form. They produce a raw material from these tyres which is used by manufacturing companies worldwide who produce new tyres, shoe soles, carpet underlay, sports fields, roads and many other rubber products. They have been able to successfully recycle the "complete" tyre, which includes the metal - which is sent to scrap metal dealers and the flock which is also sold to manufacturing companies such as the companies that make rubber dustbins, battery cases etc. They are currently working with companies such as Women of Peace Centre in Daveyton who want to start collection of tyres in the town ships to sell to recycling companies.
