Pikitup's Compost Bag

Composting Pikitup has launched several sustainable development initiatives in line with the global aims of the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development. Environmental Education

Environmental education Pikitup's role is more than providing a waste collection and disposal service; we believe that Pikitup must also focus on helping to improve the environment for the benefit of everyone.

Pikitup is involved in many educational initiatives and has implemented the Primary Health and Sanitation Training technique to communicate educational waste management solutions to the community.

Waste Awareness Campaign

Waste awareness campaigns To achieve its goal of cleaning up Johannesburg and reducing illegal dumping and littering, Pikitup has, since its inception, embarked on numerous clean up campaigns, aimed at establishing ownership of the environment amongst all people residing in the City of Johannesburg. Communities and City Departments have participated actively in these campaigns, removing many thousands of tons of excess waste from neighbourhoods. Apart from cleaning problem areas, these clean-ups have also managed to create awareness among communities, and prove that Pikitup is serious in its fight against grime.

Refurbishment of garden sites A total of 42 garden sites presently exist throughout the City of Johannesburg. Pikitup is actively monitoring the misuse and abuse of the garden waste disposal sites by the commercial and private sector. The company has implemented a strict service delivery policy at all garden sites. All Pikitup Garden sites have receptacles for recycled material i.e. glass, paper, cans and plastic.

The Woodmead, Ballyclare, Victory Park, Fairlands and Waterval Garden Centres have facilities for recycling garden waste, which is then taken to the Composting Plant in Panorama, Roodepoort.
