Pikitup will be hosting its Youth Stakeholder Summit which forms part of the Growth Development Strategy (GDS) programme, on Friday, 22 June 2012 at the Braamfontein Recreation Centre, in commemoration of Youth Month.
The objectives of the summit are to:
• Educate the youth on various issues of waste and pollution management including the environmental impact of waste;
• Promote and demonstrate poverty alleviation and job creation through waste management projects;
• Improve dialogue within the civil, social and public sector on the implementation of the Waste Minimisation Strategy, which will culminate in the implementation of an integrated waste management strategy for the City of Joburg;
• Focus on the reduction of general waste to landfills through waste minimisation and other recycling initiatives; and
• Showcase opportunities in the waste management sector.
