The war on illegal dumping continues at Pikitup. The waste management company of the City of Johannesburg believes it won another battle to bring it closer to victory when it supported Clover undertake a clean-up of the Zandspruit informal settlement on Saturday 31 July 2010. Clover joins a long list of companies which have heeded Pikitup’s call to be part of the solution. Armed with refuse bags and gloves, Clover’s call center team had been spearheading a number of clean-ups particularly in Roodepoort before undertaking the challenge of cleaning up Zandspruit. “We had a great outcome and although it was not the best conditions to work in, everyone that participated did so in good spirit and with enthusiasm,” said Rowena Reyneke, a Clover Team Leader.
Pikitup provided the bags, gloves and trucks as support for the clean-up which saw hundreds participate and 1384 bags of litter collected. “We will always strive to support companies such as Clover, who want to make a tangible difference, says Pansy Jali-Oyedele, Communications Manager of Pikitup. “The educational value of such clean-up initiatives is priceless” she added. Region C of the City of Johannesburg also played a crucial role in enabling the clean-up of Zandspruit by providing insight and resources towards the successful campaign.
