Celebrities from different walks of life will be pitching in for Clean Up Day on 05 June 2010. Sophie Ndaba, Marks Maponyane, Penny Lebyane, Nothemba Madumo and the Golden Lions team have committed themselves to the campaign aimed at ensuring a cleaner city ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup 2010. Taking place just six days ahead of the World Cup, Clean Up Day will see thousands of residents and businesses take part in a city wide clean up of Joburg. “It’s an important campaign that we should all be part of,” says Sophie Ndaba. ”A clean City reflects our pride as residents”. Marks Maponyane believes the campaign’s theme “Clean City. Clean Game” is befitting, noting the similarities between the two. “A clean game is about adhering to the rules, ensuring safety for all involved and being a spectacle for onlookers and in the same way a clean city should reflect respect for the waste by-laws, a safer environment and of course a beautiful place for visitors,” he says. “Joburg is a vibrant City with so much potential,” adds the Golden Lions captain, Cobus Globbelaar. “The 2010 World Cup is an opportunity to reveal all its charm and glory and one of the ways we can do that is by pitching in on 05 June”. The celebrities agree that Joburg is a trendsetter and that residents need to develop the habit of keeping it clean “We need to keep the City clean for it to remain the top business hub of Africa,” adds Penny Lebyane.
