Pikitup picked up a Gold Award in the “Large Corporate Listed Businesses” category and a Silver Award in the “Business Community Support” category at the Roodepoort Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ROCCI) Business of the Year Gala Awards function held on Saturday 07 November at Silver Star Casino. The Awards are held in honour of those businesses whose hard work and innovations have elevated them to be recognised for their outstanding achievements. “These awards are a highlight in an eventful year for Pikitup,” said Roelf de Beer, General Manager Marketing of the waste management arm of the City of Johannesburg “It is an honour to be recognised for all-round business excellence as well as community support,” he added. He accepted the award on behalf of Pikitup together with Pansy Jali-Oyedele, Acting Communications Manager and Brian Williams, Regional Manager at the Roodepoort Depot. A call was made to all businesses to assist and support Pikitup’s effort to ensure that the city is spotlessly clean during the soccer world cup and beyond. Pikitup also won an award for the best themed table for its creative visual interpretation of “A Recycled Christmas Carol” using recycled materials. The table included ten small wheelie bins, 10 plastic plate holders, 10 card board signs and a piece of green grass - this was based on an age old African story of the baobab tree. As the story goes, ancient kings and elders sat under the cool shade of the baobab to discuss important matters. The trees were revered for their large shelter and the leaders believed that the spirit of the baobab would help them make wise decisions. In the spirit of Charity, a recycled Pikitup bin chair, inspired by the legend of the baobab tree, was donated by Pikitup on the day with proceeds going to FORA (Friends of Rescued Animals). The recycled Pikitup bin chair was sold to Silver Star Casino for R15 000.00. |
