1 slsThe Waste Management Company of the City of Johannesburg, Pikitup today announced that it is experiencing service delivery disruptions due to an illegal work stoppage by its employees affiliated to the union SAMWU.

This illegal work stoppage will affect refuse collection in all the regions of the City of Johannesburg. We therefore appeal to residents and business owners to bear with us and to continue to leave their bins and excess waste inside their yards until further notice.

These disruptions are of great concern to us, our shareholder (the City of Johannesburg) but most importantly our residents and the business owners serviced by Pikitup on a daily basis.
It is rather unfortunate, particularly on the part of the union to embark on yet another  unprotected work stoppage.

This, following a Political Facilitated Agreement (PFA) brokered by the Gauteng’s MEC for Co-operative Department, Mr. Jacob Mamabolo, on the 3rd December 2015. It is clear that the union is reneging from the spirit of the agreement, which sought to relieve the residents of Johannesburg and business owners from the inconvenience brought to bear on their quality of life by the ongoing unprotected strike. Pikitup once again apologises to residents and business owners on the service disruptions.
Every effort is being made to speedily address this unsolicited work stoppage. For more information, contact:
