The Waste Management Company of the City of Johannesburg, Pikitup today announced that it is experiencing service delivery disruptions due to an illegal work stoppage by its employees affiliated to the union SAMWU. This illegal work stoppage will affect refuse collection in all the regions of the City of Johannesburg.
We therefore appeal to residents and business owners to bear with us and to continue to leave their bins and excess waste inside their yards until further notice.
These disruptions are of great concern to us, our shareholder (the City of Johannesburg) but most importantly our residents and the business owners serviced by Pikitup on a daily basis.
Pikitup once again apologises to residents and business owners on the service disruptions. Every effort is being made to speedily address this unsolicited work stoppage.
The City of Johannesburg, the Board and management of Pikitup condemns the unlawful action taken by SAMWU today. The unlawful action is against the spirit of the ongoing engagement with SAMWU and the concessions made by the City of Johannesburg and Pikitup to accommodate SAMWU’s demands.
