Pikitup will be celebrating World Environment Day with a series of events planned for Friday, 3 June 2016.

Part: One and Two

The City of Johannesburg Member of the Mayoral Committee for Environment and Infrastructure Services Department, councillor Matshidiso Mfikoe will on the 3rd of June 2016, launch a city-wide Monthly Friday Clean-Up Campaign and the Pikitup Separation@Source Door-to-door programme, as part of Pikitup’s World Environment Day celebration and beyond.

This will be followed by a walk-about and clean-up led by Councillor Matshidiso Mfikoe. Media is advised to join the Social Movement to restore the dignity and the pride of the City of Johannesburg.

Part Three: Waste Dialogue

Pikitup will also host a Waste Management Dialogue themed: Bring Back Jozi’s Shine. The Pikitup’s Chairperson of the Board of Directors, Dr Trish Hanekom is set to deliver a key note address to welcome a panel made up of the following:

  • Mr Leslie Sedibe, CEO, Proudly South Africa
  • Ms Catherine Constantinides, Executive Director, Miss Earth South Africa
  • Mr Andy Balaram, Community Engagement Specialist, University of Johannesburg
  • Ms Musa Jack, Executive Director, Waste Minimisation and Programmes, Pikitup

The panel will discuss the state of cleanliness in the inner-city and unpack long term solutions to issues faced by the City as far as waste is concerned.
